Mountain lion observed at Monte Vista Trailhead (Falcon Crest) |
 |
Possibly the same lion spotted on the American River.
FOLSOM LAKE SRA -
A Park Watch reporter filed this note: "Some mistakenly call this Falcon Crest, which is the name of the housing area just downhill from Monte Vista Trailhead, hence their sign in the parking lot. The cat was spotted just five properties to the south. (GPS Coordinates 38.74039,-121.06367) Possibly the same cat was recently spotted along the American River, according to a fellow ARTP volunteer."
If so, she possibly has three cubs, although this is not verified.
If you spot this lion, Park Rangers would like you to call Folsom Lake SRA at 916 988-0205 so they can warn trail users in the area.
Do not approach mt. lions, especially when they have cubs. Most lions are very elusive and wish to avoid you, but will protect their cubs with deadly force. A jogger was killed not far from here by a female lion with a cub.
Remember, there has never been a documented case of a mt. lion attack on a horse with a rider aboard, so if you are riding, you can feel fairly safe in mt. lion country. But, if mt. biking, hiking or running, always go with friends and don't head down the trail at dawn or dusk when the lions are on the move.
