Fees on the rise at Folsom Lake and Auburn SRAs effective July 1, 2012
Boating and camping fees to increase, and new day use fee areas.

Fees on the rise at Auburn, Folsom Lake state recreation areas

The Gold Fields District of California State Parks announced fee increases effective July 1 at two local state recreation areas - Folsom and Auburn.

The changes include a $2 increase in boat launching fees, a $3 increase in camping fees and increases in day-use fees in selected areas.

A new day-use parking fee area will also be established at the American River Confluence area and several other locations, according to a press release.

Currently, there is no fee to park in this area and many use it to gain access to the popular swimming area known as Clark's Hole. The new day-use fee will be $10 per vehicle.

The increases are part of a new 25-year Managing Partner Agreement between State Parks and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for the continued management of the Folsom and Auburn state recreation areas. Through the agreement, all fees collected at either area will be retained locally to offset the cost of operating and maintaining these two park units and to fund facility repairs and improvements, according to officials.

There are annual passes available. The Golden Poppy Annual Vehicle Day Use Pass is $125 and is good at nearly 100 other state park areas. If the annual passes are sold at Folsom or Auburn areas, the funds are retained locally to defray costs of operation, according to the release.
