 BLM database lists abandoned mine lands and projects
Nearly 13,000 abandoned mines in California are listed in the Bureau of Mines Mineral Industries Location System Database.

CALIFORNIA - Abandoned mine lands (BLM California)
Nearly 13,000 mine properties in California and northwest Nevada are listed in the Bureau of Mines Mineral Industries Location System database as on land managed by BLM-California. An estimated additional 5,000 sites not recorded in the database are likely on BLM land. Of these 18,000, an estimated 3,000 significant properties contain hazardous substances or physical features and/or have environmental problems.

If you click on a mine name link, for example, the "You Bet South Hydraulic Mine, and then place the coordinates (N39 12 02, W120 52 05) into Google Maps, you can see exactly where the project is located - Lowell Hill Road, Nevada City.

Be aware when you are hiking or riding on BLM lands that abandoned mines are dangerous and most contain hazardous material.
