The Jed Smith Ultra Classic is a very fast, flat loop course.

Final lap must be started by 5:00 PM!

Sierra Club Training Hill Hike - Quarry Trail
AUBURN SRA - February 4, 2012 Day Hike (2B). Training Hill Loop - Quarry Trail
This hike starts at the confluence, goes up the Training Hill (guaranteed to get your heart rate up!), follows the Pointed Rocks Trail east, crosses Hwy 49, goes around the Cool Cave quarry, descends to and returns on the Quarry Trail. Hike stats: 8 miles (round trip), elevation gain 1,500', starting elevation 600'. Bring the essentials, including water, snacks, lunch, layered clothing due to changeable weather conditions, and $ for carpool drivers. Rain cancels. WESTERN STATES TRAIL - February 4, 2012 Sierra Club Singles Day Hike (2A). Ruck-A-Chucky Area of the American River
We will hike along the American river about 3-1/2 miles each way (7 total miles) and a total elevation gain of about 1,000'. This is a very attractive area with nice views of the river. We'll eat lunch by the river. The Western States Trail crosses in this area. We will overlook a very difficult rafting point on the river. There is a 2 mile drive on a bumpy dirt road to get to the trailhead. Meet 9:00 a.m. @ Eureka Rd. Park & Ride. Rain cancels. No reservation needed. Leader: Jack Tolomei 916.944.4942.

I-80 east to the Elm Street exit in Auburn
Left onto Elm Street to the stop light
Left (east) on High Street and follow the road to the right under the RR tracks
Go straight through the light onto Hwy 49 towards Placerville
Follow Hwy 49 down to the north fork and middle fork confluence of the American River
Do not turn right over the bridge onto 49 to Cool/Placerville.
Proceed straight about 1/8 mile to the curved bridge that crosses the north fork.
Park on either side of the road before/after the bridge.
Trailhead is on the right hand side of the road.
Portable toilet available at trailhead

SPENCEVILLE WILDLIFE AREA - Feb. 12, 2012, Sacramento Hiking Meet Up Shingle Falls Hike 4.1 Miles

Description: This is a very pleasant and easy walk through the countryside to a very pretty waterfall nestled in a little canyon. There is a Lower Fairy Falls about 30 feet high but you will need to scramble along the rocks to get a good view. Upper Fairy Falls is more impressive and just a short ways upstream. Hike down the steep bank to the base of the falls and have lunch on the rocks."

Altitude at Trailhead: 350'
Terrain: Gravel road and trail
Distance: 4.1 Miles
Difficulty Rating: Beginner
Fitness Level: Able to walk uneven surfaces for and hour and a half on road and trail before a break

Departure Trailhead: 10:15am at the trailhead

Join ARC-trained docents for a historical tour of property recently acquired by ARC. This ranch is an interesting mosaic of springs, streams, wetlands, blue and live oak forest, sweeping vistas and prime agricultural soil. Ranch ponds and the small lake is a draw for wildlife, particularly migratory waterfowl during the winter and early spring. Along with its beauty, learn about the rich history of the Wakamatsu Tea and Silk Farm, the 1st Japanese Colony site established America in 1869. Please call for meeting location (Gold Hill area) and to sign up. Cost: $10/per person.

8:00 AM - 38 mi, 50k and 21 mi start
9:00 AM - 10k start
The course is primarily run on the South Side Trail. 10k, 21 miler out and back. 50k at Salmon Falls aid station does a clockwise loop returning to he South Side Trail. 38 milers at Salmon Falls aid station continue East to the Sweetwater Trail & turnaround at the SRA aid station and return to Salmon Falls aid station looping around back to the South Side Trail returning to the finish.

DEER CREEK HILLS PRESERVE - Event: Geology Hike
Start Date: Saturday, February 25, 2012
Time: 9:00am-1:00pm
Location: Deer Creek Hills Preserve
Hikers will experience approximately 4 miles at a moderate pace will cover the gentle ascending low hills in the eastern area of the Deer Creek Hills Preserve. The geology hike is being led by SVC Docent Robert H. Sydnor, Engineering Geologist & Hydrogeologist. The hike will highlight where the Sierras meet the Valley with the Ione Formation then proceed eastward through the Salt Springs Slate and the Gopher Ridge Volcanic formation.
$10.00 registration fee and RSVP on-line or contact Gina Silvernale @ 916/612-3719. $40. season passes available.
Round trip hike approximately 4-8 miles. Hikers of different capacities are always welcomed and will be divided accordingly to best suit your pace! Slower, moderate and adventurous paces are offered.

FOLSOM LAKE SRA - Feb 25 - 26, 2012 NorCal High School Cycling League Granite Bay Challenge
There will be 11 races on the Granite Bay multi-use trails starting at 8:30 AM with over 1,000 people on Sunday.. If you are not a participant in these races, use alternate trails that day. Trail closure will be on Sunday from 10am-3pm.
Time of Event: 8am-3:30pm both days.
Total hours requested: 7am-5:30pm on both days.
Areas to be used: Main Granite Bay parking lot, beach, day use, and multi-use trails to north Granite and back. Trail closure will be on Sunday from 10am-3pm.

Directions to Trailhead:
From Sacramento
I-80 east to the Elm Street exit in Auburn
Left onto Elm Street to the stop light
Left (east) on High Street and follow the road to the right under the RR tracks
Go straight through the light onto Hwy 49 towards Placerville
Follow Hwy 49 down to the north fork and middle fork confluence of the American River
Do not turn right over the bridge onto 49 to Cool/Placerville.
Proceed straight about 1/8 mile to the curved bridge that crosses the north fork.
Park on either side of the road before/after the bridge.
Trailhead is on the right hand side of the road.
Portable toilet available at trailhead

With your equine pal, overlook the central valley flat lands, down town Sacramento, Mt Diablo, and Rancho Seco from the vantage point of the Sierra Foothills. You'll be set back in time with the untouched beauty of 4400+ acres of blue oak woodlands.
Escorted by SVC Equestrian Docents, you will explore on saddle back the cattle made trails on this working cattle ranch for approximately two and a half hours.
This ride is through open country over a variety of terrain, including water crossings, most groups are from ten to twenty people in size, and travel at a walk. Our goal is a safe and enjoyable outing for all. Horses should be accustom to riding in groups and in open fields.
The Equestrian Docents would love to understand your riding ability and your horse's ability, to ensure a safe riding experience! When registering, select the from one of the following;
"Advanced" and expert riding experience
"Intermediate" riding ability
"Novice" or beginner riding skill

$20.00 registration fee
($40 Season passes available).

FOLSOM LAKE SRA - Feb 25 - 26, 2012 NorCal High School Cycling League Granite Bay Challenge
There will be 11 races on the Granite Bay multi-use trails starting at 8:30 AM with over 1,000 people on Sunday.. If you are not a participant in these races, use alternate trails that day. Trail closure will be on Sunday from 10am-3pm.
Time of Event: 8am-3:30pm both days.
Total hours requested: 7am-5:30pm on both days.
Areas to be used: Main Granite Bay parking lot, beach, day use, and multi-use trails to north Granite and back. Trail closure will be on Sunday from 10am-3pm.
